Hertz in Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ)

Toronto Pearson Airport, or to give it its full title, Lester B. Pearson International airport, is the busiest airport in Canada, serving 180 international and domestic destinations and an important hub for several major airlines, including Air Canada. Located around 27km, or a 30-minute drive, from downtown Toronto, Toronto Pearson Airport is the gateway to Canada’s most populous city and the province of Ontario.

Driving through Canada and you’ll get a sense of its sheer scale, beautiful landscapes and often blissfully empty roads. Whether you’re undertaking an epic road trip across the country, or you’re heading to one cosmopolitan city like Toronto, start your journey off without any fuss with Hertz Car Rental. There is a Hertz Car Rental Branch located next to both airport terminals, so you can hit the road as soon as you arrive.

About the airport

Since its construction in 1938, when it was known as Malton Airport, Toronto Pearson International Airport has grown to be the busiest airport in Canada and the 34th busiest in the world. In 2015, it connected over 41 million passengers to more than 180 destinations worldwide. There are several hotels located close to the airport, including the Sheraton Gateway Hotel.

Toronto Pearson Airport currently has two operational terminals, perhaps a little confusingly, Terminal 1 and Terminal 3, with Terminal 1 the largest of the two. Both terminals have multi-storey car parks located directly opposite, where you’ll find the Hertz Car Rental branch.

How to rent a car at Toronto Pearson International Airport

You’ll find renting a car at Toronto Pearson Airport is relatively straightforward, with a Hertz Car Rental Branch located adjacent to both Terminal 1 and Terminal 3, on level 1 of the multi-storey car parks. Both car parks can be accessed via a pedestrian walkway.

You must be at least 21 years of age to rent a car in Canada. Drivers between the ages of 21 and 24 may have to pay the appropriate age differential charge. You must also have a full and valid license from your country of residence. If this license is not in English, you may need an additional license. If you have pre-booked your vehicle, please have the reservation details and credit/debit card.

Additional information:

Flight arrivals: Please specify airline flight number in your reservation.
Local residents only: Please reserve and pick up your vehicle at Terminal 1.

Driving in Canada

Visitors to the Canada are only allowed to drive hire vehicles with the appropriate insurance and a full license. More information on driving in Canada is available here.

Nearby attractions

About a 45-minute drive from the Toronto Pearson Airport is the Canadian Automotive Museum. Founded in 1963, the museum is a celebration of Canada’s motoring heritage and a great place to visit if you and your family can’t get enough of everything on four wheels!

Alternatively, you could head into Canada’s most populous city, the city of Toronto, where you’ll find plenty to keep you and your family busy, including Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada, Toronto island Park, and, once the tallest free-standing structure in the world, the CN Tower. It might have lost that prestigious title but is sure to take your breath away once you reach the top!
