About the Airport

The 1952 Summer Olympics, held in nearby Helsinki, saw the building of Vantaa Airport (also known as Helsinki Airport). To begin with, it only had one runway, but four years later a second was added. During the 1970s and ‘80s an increase in demand saw a rise in new services, such as non-stop flights to Tokyo and the expansion of its international terminal. However, it wasn’t until the early 2000s that the third runway was added – again to cope with increasing numbers of passengers.

How to Rent a Car at Helsinki Vantaa Airport (HEL)

In order to rent a car at Vantaa Airport, you will need to be at least 25 years old although, if you are paying an age differential surcharge, the minimum age requirement is 20.
