Hertz in Stuttgart Airport (STR)

Stuttgart Airport is the sixth busiest airport in Germany and in 2015, 10.5 million passengers passed through its doors. Located just 8 miles south of the city and well-connected by road and rail, the airport is conveniently located for exploring Stuttgart with a rental car from Hertz.

Hertz Car Rental has been providing rental vehicles to customers across the globe for almost a century. Customers arriving at the Stuttgart Airport branch of Hertz Car Rental can select from a wide range of vehicles, giving them the freedom to explore Stuttgart and the surrounding area at their leisure.

About the airport

Stuttgart Airport was constructed in 1939 as a replacement for Böblingen Airport and from 1945 until 1948, the US Army took over the airport. After World War II, the airport underwent expansion when the runway was extended, and in 2017, a new hotel opened here.

Stuttgart Airport consists of four passenger terminals, all connected to each other but with separate entrances and check-in facilities.

How to rent a car at Stuttgart Airport

The Hertz Car Rental branch is located between the two exits in Terminal 2, close to baggage claim. It is open from Monday to Friday from 7am to 11pm, Saturday from 9am to 9pm and Sunday from 8am to 11pm. Hertz also provides an out-of-hours drop-off and pick-up service which can be arranged offline through the Reservation Centre.

For drivers with a licence issued outside the EU that is not in Roman script, an International Driver’s Permit (IDP) is required.

For certain vehicle groups, you must have been in possession of your driver’s licence for at least 3 years. Where customers have arranged advance collection, the relevant documentation will be required, and all payments can be made using a credit or debit card.

Nearby attractions

Car rental with Hertz in Germany means you can explore the Stuttgart area at your leisure Car enthusiasts can visit the Mercedes-Benz Museum with its vintage cars or the Porsche Museum, whilst for families there Wilhelma Zoo and Botanical Gardens is a must-see attraction. Also worth visiting is the Schweinemuseum (the world’s biggest pig museum) and the Turmforum; from the top of the tower you can enjoy the best views in the city. The Germans drive on the left, and roads in Germany and in Stuttgart are generally very well-maintained. Although drivers tend to be considerate of other road users, the roads can get very busy during the morning and evening rush hour, so these times are best avoided if you’re new to driving in the country.
