Hertz in Jordan

Car rental from Hertz is one of the easiest ways to travel in Jordan, particularly if you are journeying outside of Amman, as public transport outside the city is not quite as comprehensive as it is within the more urbanised areas. Jordan is a beautiful country to drive through with huge stretches of desert and fabulous rural landscapes. There are several routes that you can take through the country to see the best of it, making it a great prospect for adventurous drivers.

Hertz Car Rental has several branches in Jordan in both Amman and Aqaba, including at airports and hotels. This makes it easy to rent a fantastic value car with us, whether it’s as soon as your flight lands or later once you’re settled in one of the key cities.

Rules and regulations for driving in Jordan

Jordan, just like most other countries, has some strictly enforced rules when it comes to driving. You should make sure you are aware of these before travelling, although below are some key things to remember:

• Drivers in Jordan drive on the right.
• Seat belts are mandatory for everyone travelling in a vehicle at all times.
• Speed limits are enforced in Jordan, with police using speed-monitoring equipment to catch drivers over the limit. Speed limits change frequently on stretches of road, so take care to look out for local signage.
• Mobile phones must be used with a hands free kit. Any other method of use when driving is illegal.
• Jordanian law enforcement has a zero tolerance policy to drink driving. If you are caught driving under the influence you will be prosecuted and/or fined.
• All cars in Jordan are required to carry a fire extinguisher and a warning triangle in case of accident.
• Pedestrians in Jordan always have right of way.
• Drivers should carry their licence, registration, insurance documents and passports with them in the car at all times.

It is also advisable to not drive outside of Amman at night, as drivers in more rural areas have been known to drive without headlights, making it quite dangerous.

Special attractions

Anyone with a love of cars should definitely schedule in a visit to The Royal Automobile Museum in Amman. Commissioned by King Abdullah II to pay tribute to his father, the museum houses the car collection of the late King Hussein. The King’s passion for cars is legendary and the collection itself is fascinating, featuring everything from the first car ever made to a 2005 Porche Carrera GT.

Anyone who wants to unleash the full power of their engines on the open road is spoiled in Jordan, with two fantastic highways. The Dessert Highway connects Aqaba, Ma’an and Amman and shows off spectacular scenery. The King’s Highway is a more relaxed drive which eventually joins the Dessert Highway.
