Hertz in Sheraton Hotel

Start your Jordan adventure by renting a car right in the heart of Amman, where it’s easy to reach some of the capital city’s most amazing sights. With a comprehensive road network that’s well maintained, and with Hertz Car Rental in Amman providing you with the very best in top quality vehicles, hiring a car is the easiest way to get around both Amman city and the rest of Jordan.

With well-maintained roads, good signage, and clear motorways south through the country, driving in Jordan isn’t difficult. Once you’ve seen the sights of Amman, take a day trip to the Dead Sea or stretch out your time and drive to the ruins at Petra as well. As the Dead Sea is only an hour from Amman, it’s well worth a trip, especially in the air-conditioned comfort a hire car from our Sheraton Hotel branch gives you.

Rules and Regulations for Driving in Amman, Jordan

Driving in Jordan is quite straightforward and while the city can get congested and a little hectic, it’s all part of the adventure. In Jordan you’ll drive on the right-hand side of the road and overtake on the left. Collect your car from our Hertz branch at the Sheraton Hotel, and you’ll be able to start your Jordanian adventure straight away.

If you’re a resident of Jordan, you’ll need to be at least 25 years old to hire a car with us. You’ll also need to have held your licence for at least a year. If you’re a foreign national then you’ll need to have held your licence for at least a year and pay a surcharge if you’re under 21. There’s no surcharge for foreign drivers aged 22 and above. An International Driving Permit is also recommended.

Seatbelts are a legal requirement in Jordan, so make sure you and everybody in the car is wearing one. While there isn’t a law regarding child seats, we do hire them out from our Sheraton Hotel branch so that you can drive in the knowledge your children are protected by the best safety standards.

Speed limits should always be obeyed in Jordan as fines for breaking the limits can be very high. Jordan has typical speed limits, with 75mph (120kph) on motorways and varying 37-50mph (60-80kph) on rural and urban roads. Keep an eye out for speed limit signs and don’t be tempted to break them.

Amman is a busy city with lots of cars and it might take you a while to get used to the hectic traffic. Be prepared for drivers switching lanes suddenly and without indicating. However chaotic Amman’s streets can get, drivers are friendly and aggressive driving is rarely an issue, even during the rush hours.

Where to Visit in Jordan with Your Hire Car

Amman is packed full of interesting museums, galleries, and incredible ancient ruins. From our Hertz branch in the Sheraton Hotel, you’re perfectly positioned to get straight on the road. Just a few minutes’ drive from our branch is Jordan’s ancient Citadel, with a palace, several churches, and the Temple of Hercules all waiting to be explored. This historic monument is one of Amman’s most prized ruins and from there you can continue your sightseeing just a short drive further to the Roman Amphitheatre.

Just an hour or so south-east of Amman is the Dead Sea, with its thriving resorts and healing spas. It’s an easy drive with well-maintained motorways and before long you’ll be floating in the dense water of this unique sea. Because it’s so close to Amman, you can visit the Dead Sea on a day trip, or continue on the road south and explore a little further. Next to the sea is Mujib National Park with guided hiking trails, native Ibex, and lots of adventure activities.

Just two hours south of the Dead Sea is Petra, Jordan’s iconic carved rock city. This ancient ruin draws visitors from all over the world and is a once in a lifetime experience. Nearby is a Bedouin camp which provides unique accommodation and the perfect night under the stars.
