Located 32km from the heart of Old Muscat, Muscat International Airport is the biggest in Oman and is home to Oman Air, the nation’s national carrier. Hertz Car Rental is located in the Arrivals area of the airport’s terminal building and is the easiest way to rent a car for your trip to Muscat and the adjacent regions.

About the airport

Muscat International Airport was opened in 1973 as Seeb International Airport, this in turn replacing a smaller airfield. It played a part in the Gulf War as an RAF base, and was rechristened with its present name in 2008. Occupying an area of 21 sq. km, the airport lies within the metropolitan area of the city and is convenient for entering and leaving the city for business or pleasure.

The single passenger terminal will be replaced by another larger one in the near future to cope with the increasing numbers of travellers passing through. It will ultimately have 29 gates and after completion of Phase I will be able to process 12 million passengers per annum. Subsequent phases will see this increase to 48 million in the longer term.
