Hertz in Almana Tower, Doha

Qatar’s capital city is a great place to explore and car rental from Hertz is the best way to get around in complete comfort, particularly during the summer months. Located in the Al Hilal East district on Old Airport Road, the Almana Tower Hertz branch is close to the C ring road that circles the city, just a 15-minute drive from Doha International Airport

This wealthy, rapidly developing city is home to attractions such as the Doha Corniche and The Pearl Qatar. Traffic in the city can be busy, but a well-developed road network ensures things keep moving smoothly. Hiring a car ensures you can see all the main sights in air-conditioned comfort, and at your own pace.

Rules and Regulations for Driving in Doha

To rent a car with Hertz in Doha, you will need a full driving licence and must be over 25 for most vehicle groups. This can be reduced to 21 for certain vehicle groups on payment of a young driver’s surcharge. You will need to present a copy of your passport and driving licence when you collect your vehicle. Your national driving licence is only valid for 7 days after your arrival in Qatar, after which you’ll need to obtain a temporary Qatari driver’s licence, unless you are a GCC national (United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain, or Qatar), in which case you can drive without any restrictions.

Most locations in Doha don’t use street names or numbers as part of their address, so satellite navigation is a must. In the city there are five circular roads curving around the centre, known as the A, B, C, D and E roads, making it easy to reach most parts of the city. When it comes to parking, you’ll find paid parking at shopping malls, and a mix of free and metered on-street parking, although areas near the city’s top attractions can be busy.

As in any city, the roads in Doha can be very busy during rush hour, so peak times are best avoided. Driving in Doha, as in the rest of Qatar, is on the right, and speed limits are strict and must be adhered to at all times.

Special Attractions

On a sunny afternoon, head for Doha Corniche for a leisurely stroll around the bay. While you’re here, check out the Museum of Islamic Art, home to an impressive range of artefacts and exhibits from the last 1,400 years. It’s well worth exploring the Souq Waqif market for souvenirs of your trip. If you’re travelling with family, a day trip to Doha Zoo should definitely be on the cards, whilst if it’s unadulterated luxury you’re after, don’t miss The Pearl Qatar, where you’ll find Maserati, Ferrari and Rolls-Royce showrooms as well as some fantastic fine-dining restaurants.

Minimum car rental age: Depending on the vehicle group, you must be either 21 (on payment of a young driver’s surcharge) or 25 years of age to rent a car in Doha.

Correct side of the road: In Doha, you drive on the right-hand side of the road and overtake on the left.

Speed limits: Speed limits in Doha can vary considerably. In most urban areas the speed limit ranges from 60km/h to 100km/h, while on out of town roads 120km/h is more normal.

Driving with children: Child seats are not mandatory in Qatar, but they are recommended. Children in the rear passenger seats must use appropriate car seats and seat belts.
