Hertz in Amc Workshop, Doha

There’s no better way to get around Doha than in the air-conditioned comfort of a Hertz rental car. Doha is a real ‘driver’s city’, with an excellent road network that makes getting around the capital quick and easy. You’ll find the AMC Workshop branch on Street 23 in West Bay Lagoon, a well-heeled area to the north of the city centre, just a 35-minute drive from Doha International Airport.

As the capital city of the world’s wealthiest country, there’s plenty to see and do in Doha, with The Pearl Qatar and Doha Corniche attracting visitors all year round. The road network here is well-developed, with five circular ring roads curving around the city (the A, B, C, D and E roads). Renting a car in Doha makes it easy to see all the main sights, at a pace of your choosing and in complete comfort.

Rules and Regulations for Driving in Doha

The minimum age to rent a car with Hertz in Doha is 25 for most vehicle groups, and you will need a full driving licence. The lower age limit can be reduced to 21 for certain vehicle groups only on payment of a young driver’s surcharge. You will need to present a copy of your passport and driving licence when you collect your vehicle. Your national driving licence is only valid for 7 days after your arrival in Qatar, after which you’ll need to obtain a temporary Qatari driver’s licence. GCC nationals (residents of the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain, or Qatar) can drive without any such restrictions.

Because most places in the city don’t use street numbers or names in their address, you’ll find yourself relying on satellite navigation to get around. Valet parking is generally available at most hotels, with a good mix of metered and free on-street parking and paid parking at shopping malls across the city.

It’s best to avoid driving in peak times as the roads can be busy, as in most cities. Driving in Doha is on the right, and speed limits are strict and must be adhered to at all times.

Special Attractions

The West Bay Lagoon area is close to The Pearl Qatar, a man-made island that’s home to wealthy Qataris and ex-pats. Here you’ll find Rolls-Royce, Maserati and Ferrari showrooms, fine dining restaurants, and plenty of designer clothes boutiques. Katara Beach is nearby, with Katara Cultural Village also well worth visiting. If you’re travelling on business you may wish to unwind with a round of golf at Doha Golf Club, or head into the city centre to take a stroll along Doha Corniche in the sunshine. The Souq Waqif is an experience that should not be missed, and the perfect place to shop for souvenirs, spices, or rugs.

Quick Information

Minimum car rental age: You must be either 21 (young driver’s surcharge applies) or 25 years of age to rent a car in Doha, depending on the vehicle group.

Correct side of the road: In Doha, you drive on the right-hand side of the road and overtake on the left.

Speed limits: Speed limits in Doha can vary depending on the area. For out of town roads, it’s normal for a speed limit of 120km/h to apply, while in urban areas it can range from 60km/h to 100km/h.

Driving with children: Child seats are not mandatory in Doha, but they are recommended. Children in the rear passenger seats must use appropriate car seats and seat belts.

Toll roads: Although there are currently no toll roads in Qatar, all Hertz vehicles are fitted with a Salik tag which will register each time you use a toll road. On returning your vehicle, you will be given a breakdown of this and be charged accordingly.
