Hertz in Belgrade

Belgrade is Serbia’s capital and home to over 1 million people. This busy city has an excellent road system, making renting a car in Belgrade the best way to get around, in comfort and style. Belgrade is very car-centric, with routes to and from its major attractions and main highways and motorways taking you further afield. Hertz Car Rental in Belgrade operates from both the Nikola Tesla Airport and Novi Beograd, offering convenient car hire and instant access to the central business district, as well as the main sightseeing areas.

Surrounding the point where the Danube and the River Sava meet, Belgrade’s skyline is an eclectic one; a mix of the whitewashed buildings that give it its nickname (the White City), houses from the 1940s, and sleek, chic modern architecture. With a buzzing café culture and a vibrant nightlife, there are plenty of hotels to be found within Belgrade’s walls and some excellent shopping on offer; don’t miss the chance to visit the famous Kalenic market.

Rules and Regulations for Driving in Belgrade

Unless the road-signs state otherwise, the speed limit in Belgrade is 50kph. By day, all drivers are required to have their headlights on low beam, and seatbelts must be worn at all times. Speaking on a mobile phone is not permitted, unless it’s through a hands-free device.

Trams run throughout the city centre and these have right of way over all other vehicles. Road lanes marked in yellow are exclusively for the use of public transport vehicles.

You must be at least 21 years of age to rent a car in Belgrade, although, for some vehicle groups, this can be raised to the age of 25. In addition to a valid driver’s licence from your country of origin, drivers from non-EU countries will need an International Driving Permit.

While there is plenty of parking in the city, the public garages tend offer the greatest flexibility. Street-parking zones are divided into four groups, identifiable by different colours: red, amber, green and blue. Each zone offers parking for a set number of hours – although there is no limit in the blue zones.

Special Attractions

The Belgrade Automobile Museum is one of the city’s most popular attractions. Housed in the site of Belgrade’s first public garage, you’ll find more than 50 cars, ranging from the late 1890s to the 1960s. A must for any car enthusiast, the collection displays vehicles from Germany, France, the UK and America, including the Cadillac convertible once owned by President Tito.

For the latest in automobiles and driver-friendly technology, visit Belgrade in March and check out the International Motor Show. Here you can browse stands from more than 600 exhibitors and a stunning range of the latest in the automobile industry.

If you’d like a break from city life, take a drive along Route 10, heading northwest, to the Special Nature Reserve Deliblatska Pescara, one of Serbia’s most unusual attractions. Here, you’ll find 350 square kilometres of ancient sands, left over from the last Ice Age. Home to a fascinating array of plants and wildlife, it’s a two-hour drive from the capital – a great drive if you’ve decided to rent a car in Belgrade.
