Nis is Serbia’s third largest city, and rapidly developing a reputation as a great holiday destination, as well as a thriving business hot spot for international entrepreneurs. With so much to see and do in the city and the surrounding countryside, car rental in Nis is invaluable if you want to take in all that it has to offer.

Nis is the birthplace of the famous Roman Emperor, Constantine the Great. While the Romans were certainly responsible for the beginning of the city’s road system, Nis has replaced chariots with cars and has developed a superb network of roads within its walls, and excellent links to other cities and towns.

Hertz Car Rental in Nis operates from the city’s airport, giving you instant access to a range of comfortable and stylish vehicles, available as soon as you step off your flight.

Nis is a city of spectacular contrasts, wearing its historical heart on itssleeve, while embracing modern innovations and amenities. For sightseers, there’s a wealth of attractions to explore, such as the 18th Century Nis Fortress, the bohemian Old Town, and the Archaeological Hall of Nis Museum.

Rules and Regulations for Driving in Nis

If you’ve never been to Nis before, you might find driving a little different to what you’re used to back home. Before you set off, it’s worth familiarising yourself with the rules and regulations, allowing you to enjoy your car rental in Nis to the fullest.

You must be at least 21 years of age in order to rent a car in Nis, although this age limit can climb to 25, depending on the type and class of car you want. In addition, you’ll need a full, valid driver’s licence from your country of origin and, if you’re from a non-EU country, you’ll also be required to hold an International Driving Permit (IDP).

If you’re unsure as to the documents you’ll need to be able to drive in Serbia, you can check in with your Hertz branch and they’ll give you the right information. For rental purposes, you’ll also need your passport and a credit card, if that’s how you intend to pay.

Special Attractions

Visit Nis in October and you can treat yourself to a visit to the Auto Moto Fest; one of southern Serbia’s biggest and most important car shows. In addition to the latest models from the likes of big names, such as Peugeot and Fiat, you’ll find plenty of traders, selling everything from electric motorbikes to specialist tyres. The Auto Moto Fest takes place over two days, and in 2017 attracted over 20,000 visitors. It’s worth booking your tickets in advance.

Should you fancy a change of scenery, take a day trip to the smaller city of Leskovac. Using the scenic A1 to travel south, it’s about a 45-minute drive from Nis and you’ll be rewarded with some of the most spectacular Roman ruins in the region, alongside some excellent shopping.
