Alicante Airport is Spain’s sixth busiest airport and the main hub for Murcia and Valencia. Over 4 million passengers passed through its single terminal, which replaced two former ones, in 2016 and the number continues to grow. Located 9km to the west and south of Alicante, it takes just a few minutes to drive from here to the resort area with Hertz Car Rental and explore one of southern Spain’s most beautiful coastlines.
Hertz Car Rental has been in the business of providing its international customers with rental cars for their ongoing travel needs for almost a century. As leaders in the field, when you arrive at Alicante Airport and drop in to the Hertz Car Rental branch close to the arrivals lounge you’ll be able to quickly pick up a suitable car for your onward trip. Self-drive is by far the easiest and most convenient way of exploring Murcia and Valencia.
Opened in 1967, Alicante Airport was built to meet the needs of a booming new tourism industry. Five air bridges were installed in 1996, and then in 2011 a new terminal was opened to replace the two older ones, with a passenger capacity of 20 million per year. Alicante Airport is now a major hub for low-cost airlines. Officially renamed as Alicante-Elche Airport in 2013, it retains its old IATA code.
The New terminal at Alicante Airport is the only one operational at present. Known as Terminal N, it is six times bigger than the former two terminals combined, and has 40 gates and 96 check-in desks. There are two main areas which are both used by Schengen flights, while international non-Schengen flights use the B gates in the dock area. The Hertz Car Rental branch can be found close to the arrivals lounge.
The Hertz Car Rental branch is open Monday to Sunday from 7.00am until midnight. An out of hours service for dropping off and picking up vehicles is provided by Hertz, but this must be arranged offline through the Reservation Centre.
You must be at least 25 years old to rent a car through Hertz at Alicante Airport. This is reduced to 23 years on payment of a young driver surcharge of €23.96 per day to a maximum of €239.58 per rental. You’ll have to be able to produce a valid driving license, and an International Driving Permit (IDP) if your license is not from an EU member country. A valid passport is also a requisite or a valid ID if you are from within the EU. For payment at the Hertz Car Rental desk, you can use a debit or credit card. In cases where the booking was made in advance, please also supply us with the relevant documentation.
• The delivery and collection service has to be booked through the Reservation Centre.
• Chauffer driven vehicles are supplied by Hertz in the case of customers who will not or cannot drive themselves.
The roads throughout Spain are generally in excellent condition, with highways and secondary routes connecting up all parts of the country. The area around Alicante is particularly well served because of the heavy tourist traffic, and the city itself has a number of points of interest which are easily reached by hire car. They include Santa Barbara Castle, the Port of Alicante and the great Basilica of Santa Maria.
