Hertz in Barcelona El Prat (BCN)

Barcelona-El Prat airport is one of the major air transport hubs in Europe, with 39.7million passengers travelling through it in 2015. The airport is just 20 minutes away from the centre of Barcelona, one of the most culturally rich and vibrant cities in Spain. Whether you’re in Barcelona for business or pleasure, hiring a car gives you the flexibility to explore the region as you like and at your leisure.

Hertz Car Rental is based conveniently at both terminals in Barcelona-El Prat airport so you can pick up your car with minimum fuss. You can even pre-book online in advance so that you can move on with your trip once you land.

About the airport

Barcelona-El Prat airport has been continually growing since it was first mentioned in 1916. It reached its first million passengers in 1963 and has consistently boomed since then, thanks to careful innovations and renovations. It has twice been awarded Best European Airport (more than 25 million passengers) by the Airport Council International (ACI), and has been awarded Best Airport in Southern Europe by Skytrax three times. Both awards were most recently presented in 2014.

The airport has two terminals that are connected by a 24-hour free shuttle bus service, with stops near Arrivals and Departures for each.

How to rent a car at Barcelona-El Prat airport

Hertz has two branches at Barcelona-El Prat airport — one in each terminal — and both are open from 7am until midnight. Out of hours drop off and collection services are available. The Terminal 1 branch is located on Level 0 in Zone A, while the Terminal 2 branch can be found in the front of the terminal.

To rent a car in Spain you need to be at least 25 years old. Payment of a young driver surcharge can reduce this to 23 or 21, depending on the type of vehicle you wish to rent. All renters will need to present a valid driver’s licence with, for non-EU citizens, an International Driving Permit (IDP). EU members will be required to produce either their passport or national identity card, while non-EU members must show a passport. You will also be required to provide your credit or debit card and your reservation details if you have pre-booked.

Additional information

• Hertz counters are located inside both Terminals 1 and 2.
• In both terminals, Gold customers should proceed straight to the Gold Service Counter.
• If flight number is not provided at booking, your car will be at T1.

Driving in Spain

Visitors to Spain are only allowed to drive hire vehicles with the appropriate insurance and a full licence. More information on driving in Spain.

Nearby attractions

Half an hour from the airport is the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, home of the Spanish Grand Prix. Other races are held throughout the year so it’s a must for speed fans. Barcelona itself is a hive of tourism thanks to its dozens of galleries and museums, the stunning, iconic buildings by Antoni Gaudí and the many fine restaurants and bars. Whether it’s a family holiday or a romantic break, it’s easy to find something to entertain you.
