About the airport
Palma de Mallorca Airport was established in the 1920s as a base for seaplanes, and as tourism took off in the late 1950s and 1960s extensive expansion programmes were undertaken. The new terminal constructed in 1986 to cope with increased passenger numbers is today the airport’s main terminal building, housing both entry and exit points as well as the baggage area.
Four buildings or modules have been incorporated into the basic 2-terminal structure since the 1970s, and 25 million passengers a year can now be smoothly processed. The Palma de Mallorca Airport Hertz Branch can be found in the Arrivals area of the main building.
The Hertz Car Rental Branch is open seasonally. From November 1 to March: Monday-Sunday, 7.00am to midnight. From November 14 to 28 February: Monday-Sunday, 7.00am to 11.30pm. From March 1 to March 31: Monday-Sunday, 7.00am to midnight. From April 1 to October 31: Monday-Wednesday 24 hours, Thursday 7.00am to midnight, Friday-Sunday 24 hours.

Mallorca has many great attractions, but from a driving enthusiast’s point of view its scenic routes, excellent roads and magnificent scenery are the biggest draws. One of the best routes is the one from Palma to Fornalutx, a classic white village in the hills. This drive only takes about two hours and passes through traditional Spanish villages and breathtaking countryside. Take the car along to the imposing Arab fortress in Palma too, and don’t omit the huge Santa Maria cathedral. Parking is no problem here.
