About the airport

The airport was first opened in 1960 and has since undergone several major expansions, notably the construction of Terminal 2 in 1998 and Terminal 3 in 2008 – which is today the world’s largest airport terminal, boasting a capacity for over 60 million passengers. Dubai International Airport currently comprises of three commercial travel terminals, two cargo mega terminals, three exhibition halls, an expo centre, health club and a vast array of facilities and amenities you would expect from the world’s busiest transport hub.

There are several hotels located at the airport, around 25, including Millennium Dubai Airport Hotel, Holiday Inn Express and Dubai International Hotel, as well as a huge number of retailers. Dubai Airport is the largest Duty Free retailer in the world, and is also home to over 80 food outlets, from fine dining restaurants to fast food vendors.

What is required to drive in Dubai, UAE?

You must be at least 21 to rent a car in the UAE, and 25 in some cases. You must also have been in possession of a full and valid license for at least one year. Customers with the following national driver’s licence can drive in the United Arab Emirates without an International Driving Permit (IDP): Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Romania, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States of America.

If you can’t make it to the motor show don’t worry as there are lots of attractions to keep you busy in Dubai – which might be the understatement of the year! Dubai is easily reached by car from the airport and is just over 4km away or a short drive.
