Hertz in Newcastle Airport (NCL)

Newcastle International Airport is located 9km to the north of Newcastle city centre. it is the UK’s 11th busiest airport and in 2016 almost 5 million passengers passed through its two terminals. Linked to Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Gateshead, and other towns and cities in the northeast via excellent roads as well as other transport systems, it makes a good spot to pick up a Hertz Car Rental vehicle and explore the region.

Hertz Car Rental offers a range of quality vehicles for hire, and has been doing so for almost a century now. This allows clients from around the world to experience the comfort and convenience of picking up a car whenever they need it, and to get around the highways and byways of countries all around the globe at their own pace. Customers arriving at the Newcastle International Airport branch of Hertz Car Rental enjoy fast and efficient service, and a range of other options related to quality car hire.

About the airport

The airport was opened in 1935, and experienced a sharp growth in passenger numbers during the 1960s, especially when package holidays to Spain really took off. A new runway was constructed at that time to cope with increasing demand, opened by PM Harold Wilson. It was raised to the status of a regional national airport in the 1970s, and in 1991 connected with the city’s Metro system. An extended departure terminal was opened in 2004. The southern part of Newcastle Airport is reserved for corporate flights, freight, and mail services.

Newcastle International Airport has one main terminal to handle departures and arrivals, and the Newcastle International Hertz Car Rental branch can be found here close to the Arrivals area.

How to rent a car at Newcastle International Airport

The Hertz Car Rental branch is open Monday to Friday 7.30am to 10.30pm; Saturday and Sunday 8.00am to 10.30pm. Hertz offers customers out-of-hours pick-up and drop-off services which can be arranged via the Reservation Centre.

To rent a car through Hertz at Newcastle International Airport, drivers must be at least 25 years old, with payment of an additional young driver surcharge reducing this to 23 years. For hiring some high-performance cars the minimum age to drive is set at a non-negotiable 25, 30 or 35 years of age. When you book your vehicle at the Hertz desk you’ll need to have a full driving licence with you or an International Driving Licence (IDP) if you are arriving in Newcastle from outside of the EU. You should also have a valid passport and, if you’re not from an EU member country, a valid ID. Documents for pre-booked vehicles should be in order, and payments by debit and credit card are acceptable.

Additional information:

• The Hertz NeverLost navigation system which is available with Hertz vehicles is useful for getting around this sometimes congested area and for exploring farther afield.

• Hertz Car Rental offers customers a Chauffeur-Drive service should they prefer not to take the wheel themselves, or are unable to do so.
