How do I save a page for future reference?

Saving a page for future reference is called a bookmark (in Netscape Navigator) or a favorite (in Microsoft Internet Explorer). Due to the use of frames and the dynamic nature of the Hertz website, it may not be possible to bookmark certain pages and their content. For example, you may be able to bookmark the page that you are on, but the information entered on that page will not be stored. Furthermore, to ensure security and privacy it may not be possible to bookmark pages within your User Profile or the Car Reservation Process.

What browser settings are necessary to properly view the Hertz website?

The Hertz website has been built to work properly with the most common versions of Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer. Hertz has developed this website to work with Internet Explorer 6.0 and above, Netscape 7.0 and above, and Mozilla Firefox 1.0 and above.

I received a "500 Internal Server Error" message. What is this?

We are experiencing technical difficulties on our website. Please call our customer service to report the error.

What does it mean when I get this message when I want to refresh: The page cannot be refreshed without resending the information. Click Retry to send the information again, or click Cancel to return to the page that you were trying to view.

This message is somewhat tricky because it states that it will re-send information, whether or not you filled anything out. This is because many websites have something called hidden fields, which the user cannot see. These fields hold dynamic values that are used throughout the site. An example on the Hertz website would be the selection of a button to remember your location or vehicle choice for future use. That selection needs to be passed back to the webserver so that it can be stored. In order to reload/refresh the page, the information must be re-sent to the server, regardless of whether or not you have entered anything. Please click retry, and the reload/refresh process will complete, and bring you to the requested page.

Can I earn credit in my frequent traveller program for my spouse's or travelling companion's rental?

No, the name on the Rental Agreement and the name on the frequent traveller account must match. Otherwise, credit will not be given for the Hertz rental.

Can I receive credit in more than one frequent traveler program for the same Hertz rental?

No, each rental may earn credit in only one frequent traveler program. This includes, but is not limited to, airlines, hotels, or Hertz #1 Awards.

Can I redeem frequent traveller credits for Hertz rentals?

Yes, some of our partners do offer Hertz car rental awards for free days or discounted rentals. Check with your frequent traveller program for details. Frequent traveller credit may not be earned on rentals when using these types of awards.

Can my frequent travel number(s) be stored in a profile?

Frequent travel numbers are not stored in Hertz #1 Club profiles. However, when booking reservations on Hertz.com, you may store your frequent travel numbers in an on-line profile. Please note that these numbers will not automatically carry over to a reservation. To ensure you receive frequent travel credit when booking on-line, click on the appropriate circle next to either None, Airline, Hotel/Other, or Hertz #1 Awards in the “HOW” section of the reservation process. Once you have selected your choice, please indicate the frequent travel number you choose to use for the reservation being booked. For all other reservations, please provide your frequent travel number to the Hertz reservation agent or to the third party booking your reservations.

Do all rentals qualify for credit?

No, the rentals that do not qualify for frequent traveller credit include, but are not limited to discount plans, special promotions, awards, vouchers, travel industry rates, wholesale tour packages, insurance/dealer replacement, promotional rates, or any group travel. In addition, reservations placed on hotwire.com and priceline.com do not qualify for frequent travel credit. Please note that not all Hertz locations participate in every frequent traveller program and some of our airline partners require a flight in conjunction with the Hertz rental to qualify for credit. How can I earn frequent traveler credit for Hertz rentals?

Include your frequent traveler membership number on each reservation. If the rental qualifies for credit, the appropriate information will be forwarded to the respective frequent travel partner. The partner will post credit for qualifying rentals to your account within approximately 6 to 8 weeks from your rental return date. What happens if I drop the car at a different location than where I indicated?

What happens if I return the car late?

Late returns can affect the type of rate assigned to the rental. In the United States, please call 1-800-654-4174 to report returns of a date later than the date scheduled. In most cases, returns of less than 1 hour late will not be charged extra hours. Returns 61 minutes late or later will be charged extra. A late return of 3 hours or more will usually result in charge of another day.

What if I have a problem with the car?

In the U.S., Canada, and many other countries, Hertz can provide Emergency Roadside Assistance 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Just call 1-800-654-5060 from anywhere in the United States or Canada, and a representative of the Hertz Emergency Roadside Assistance Center will make arrangements for you to be on your way as quickly as possible.

What is the policy on off-road driving?

Generally, Hertz vehicles, including 4-wheel drives, are to be operated only on regularly maintained roads. Off-road use is a violation of the rental agreement.

What qualifies as a "weekend" rental?

Generally, rentals picked up beginning Noon on Thursday through Noon Sunday qualify for the weekend rate, provided the rental is kept over a Saturday night. There are, however, some exceptions to the Saturday night keep rule and extra day charges do apply for any rental not returned by end of day Monday.
