At Hertz we offer customers a choice of lease vehicles. Our lease rates are based on brand-new or Used vehicles (from within our current fleet) that is offered for a pre-agreed lease term and mileage based on the customer’s needs. The lease rates offered will include the cost of Service, Maintenance, Registration, Insurance, Replacement and Emergency Road-side Assistance. Customers may choose to lease a vehicle for a minimum of 12 months, up to 48 months.

With an all-inclusive and fixed monthly cost, customers can enjoy a hassle-free driving experience.

Applying for a Lease Contract

What is the difference between rental and leasing?

Rental is vehicle hire for a period of fewer than 12 months. Any hire period longer than 12 months is considered to be a lease. With a rental, customers pick from the existing fleet of vehicles, and cannot choose a specific vehicle. It is unlikely to be a new vehicle and will have been used as a rental before the customer rents it for themselves. Lease agreements can be offered for both brand new and used/Ex Fleet vehicles. A lease can be offered for a minimum of 12 months up to 48 months.

What documents are required to lease a vehicle?

To lease a vehicle a customer will require a valid passport with visa page, Emirates ID & driver’s license (vehicles may be leased by UAE residents only), Etihad Credit Bureau authorization, a credit card, and a salary certificate or bank statement from the customer’s salary transfer bank.

What is the policy on additional drivers?

Lease customers may add an additional driver for the term of their contract free of cost, provided the additional driver is legally entitled to drive in the UAE.

What are the lease payments based on?

The lease payments are determined by the selected model, lease term, and specific mileage.

What are the additional costs to lease a vehicle?

A one-time charge of AED 300 will apply for the set-up of insurance and lease file, and AED 50 for a new Salik tag. Should the lease application be rejected (based on credit scoring), a charge of AED 300 will apply as a processing fee.

Is Insurance included in the lease?

Yes, fully comprehensive insurance is included in the lease cost. The lease cost also includes Personal Accident Insurance on the leased vehicle.

If a customer does not have a credit card, can they use their spouse’s/relative’s/friends card?

No, the customer will need to provide his/her own credit card to lease a vehicle. In case they do not use credit cards, cheques for the lease payment may be provided for the lease period.

What are the benefits of Leasing?

Customers can drive a brand new vehicle (any make, model, and trim), with the peace of mind of knowing that everything is taken care of, including 24-hour roadside assistance and recovery, and access to a replacement vehicle if the original lease car has a mechanical fault. Services are included, and trained technicians use only genuine parts, with servicing and repair carried out at authorized dealer workshops. All of this is provided by a company who are market leaders in customer service and lease hire.

How soon can customers get a lease vehicle?

A brand new lease vehicle can be delivered in 10-12 working days’ subject to vehicle availability in the country. A temporary vehicle can be offered for a reduced price upon request.

What vehicles are available for lease?

For a period of 24 – 48 months, customers may lease any vehicle currently on offer in the UAE from an authorized dealership.

During the Lease Contract

How do customers pay for their lease?

The monthly lease charges will be invoiced on the 3rd of each month and are automatically charged on the 10th. Ancillary charges such as Salik and traffic fines will be communicated by e-mail between the 15th – 22nd of each month and charged automatically between the 23rd – 27th.

How is Salik charged?

Each Salik crossing is charged on actuals plus 10% admin fee and charged back to the customer monthly. No Salik top-up or recharge is required from the customer. Please note Salik charges cannot be paid directly to the authorities by the customer.

How do customers manage traffic violations for leased vehicles?

We maintain a file with the RTA and monitor all traffic fines ascribed to the vehicles daily. These traffic fines are then invoiced to customers with the relevant details monthly along with an admin charge of 10% per fine. Please note: traffic fines cannot be paid directly to the relevant authorities by the customer.

What are the various additional charges?

Additional charges include excess mileage charges in the event the car exceeds the maximum allowed mileage, early termination fee, and unacceptable wear and tear charges.

What is Hertz’s policy on additional drivers?

Lease customers may add an additional driver for the term of their contract free of cost, provided the additional driver is legally entitled to drive in the UAE.

Can customers add tints to the car?

Yes, window tints may be installed on the vehicle with 30% or 50% darkness when ordered for a one-time charge of AED 950.

Is Insurance included in the lease?

Yes, fully comprehensive insurance is included in the lease. The lease also includes Personal Accident Insurance on the leased vehicle. The maximum excess or deductible in case of an accident/incident will apply per incident. The option for SCDW or Zero liability insurance can be offered for an additional cost, upon request.

What happens when the vehicle is due for service or preventive maintenance?

Call 800 HERTZ  to book an appointment with our service centre. Alternatively, email Hertz Customer Service detailing the service requirement, mention the vehicle number and odometer reading of the vehicle to be serviced.

What should a customer do when the vehicle breaks down?

In case roadside assistance is required, please call 800HERTZ to arrange for a recovery. A replacement vehicle will also be provided when the recovery of the immobile vehicle is complete. The 800HERTZ number is available for assistance 24/7.

What happens if a customer has an accident in a Hertz lease vehicle?

In case of an accident, dial 999 and request for a police/incident report.

Once done, email Customer Service with a short brief of the incident. It is vital that the police report is attached. Please ensure that the vehicle number is quoted. In case roadside assistance is required, please call 800HERTZ to arrange for an immediate recovery as well.

Can lease vehicles be driven off-road?

Desert or off-road usage is not permitted and any associated damage is chargeable to the customer in full.

Can customers drive to Oman?

Yes, insurance for Oman can be offered on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis based on the customer’s preference, for an additional cost. The request to cross the border will need to be provided at least 48 hours in advance and insurance needs to be collected from the nearest Hertz branch. Oman insurance will not cover any roadside assistance in the Sultanate of Oman.

*In case of an accident or breakdown in Oman, the customer will need to arrange for the Lease Vehicle to be brought to the UAE border. From here, Hertz will arrange for roadside assistance to be provided. Any fines incurred in Oman can take an average of 6 months to be invoiced to the customer.

How is yearly registration renewal managed?

Our customer service agent will contact the customer and schedule an appointment to collect the car for renewal. The vehicle will be dropped off at the customer’s location after re-registration.

How is fuel on the vehicle managed through service and replacement?

The permanent leased vehicle is delivered with 2/8 fuel. The vehicle will also need to be returned at the end of the lease contract with a 2/8 petrol. Each replacement is also provided with fuel. The replacement vehicle will also need to be returned back to Hertz with the same level of fuel.

When are vehicle services due?

Regular service takes place every 10,000 to 15,000km, dependent on the leased vehicle. A service due sticker is placed on the driver side door hinge to indicate the next service due mileage.

How long does a service take?

In case of service while you wait, a quick lube or regular service will take 1- 2 hours. A major service can take up to 72 hours, depending on the concerns and service requests raised.

What if a customer wants to change the vehicle or upgrade the vehicle before the end of the lease agreement?

The Hertz long term lease offering is extremely flexible with a get-out clause, pre-agreed at the time of signing. The customer may opt to terminate the lease by paying the pre-agreed termination charge and upgrade to a new leased vehicle if required at any point during the lease.

At the end of the Lease Contract

What happens if a customer drives over the contractual mileage allowance?

An additional mileage charge mentioned in the Lease Contract is applicable for each additional kilometer.

Can a customer keep the vehicle or extend the contract the end of the lease term?

At the end of the lease, customers may return the vehicle with no obligation, or extend the current agreement if the vehicle is still in good condition. Alternatively, customers can choose to purchase the lease vehicle for a previously-agreed resale value, or lease a new vehicle.

Are there any additional charges at the end of a lease?

There are no additional charges at the end of the lease if the leased vehicle is returned in a condition that conforms to our Fair Wear & Tear guide (provided with lease contract).

What is meant by wear and tear?

The day-to-day use of a vehicle causes natural wear and tear and corresponding signs of use. Any wear and tear exceeding such limits will be recorded during the vehicle inspection, evaluated, and charged at the end of the lease agreement period. Our Fair Wear and Tear Guide is a part of the lease agreement signed to ensure transparency for our customers.

If a customer needs to leave the country / can no longer lease the car. Can a lease contract be transferred to another person?

Yes, the lease can be transferred for the remainder of the lease period to another individual provided they meet the Hertz credit evaluation criteria. The transfer process takes a minimum of 3-4 working days.

What if a lease needs to be terminated early?

The Hertz long term lease offering is extremely flexible with a get-out clause, pre-agreed at the time of signing. The customer may opt to terminate the lease by paying the pre-agreed termination charge at any point during the lease.
