Hertz in Sydney International Airport (SYD)

Sydney (Kingsford Smith) Airport (also known as Sydney International Airport) is the busiest airport in Australia, and the oldest commercial international air transport hub in the world. Served by over 35 airlines, Sydney Airport links Australia to such far-flung destinations as London, Tokyo, Johannesburg and North America – as well as all other Australian capital cities. This international hub is located just 8km from Sydney city centre, is easily reached by public transport, shuttle bus or, indeed, by Hertz Car Rental hire cars.

Australia has it all, from vibrant cosmopolitan cities to wide expanses of glorious wilderness, and what better way to see this remarkable country than by car? Sydney International Airport has Hertz Car Rental branches in all three of its terminals, so you can hire a car and hit the road as soon as you touch down. The Airport’s location means many of Australia’s most famous attractions are just a short drive away, including Sydney Opera House.

About the airport

Sydney International Airport has been around since the early 1920s, making it the oldest continuously operating commercial airport in the world. It offers international, intercontinental and domestic flights to over 90 destinations, connecting more than 37 million passengers every year.

The airport has three terminals, T1 for international flights and T2 and T3 for domestic flights. A curfew is in operation between the hours of 11PM and 5:30AM, so there are no flights between these times, with terminals reopening at 4AM. All terminals have shops, food outlets, and facilities you’d expect from a large transport hub.

How to rent a car at Sydney International Airport

There are Hertz Car Retail Collection Branches in all three terminals in Sydney International Airport (open seven days a week between 5am and 11pm, when the terminals close). Car hire vehicles can be collected and returned to the car parks directly outside of each terminal. If you fail to provide a valid flight number when collecting a car, the vehicle can be collected at DOMESTIC Terminal 2.

You must be at least 21 years of age to hire a car in Australia, and possess a valid driving licence that you have held for at least one year. There may by a Young Drivers Surcharge for drivers under 25 years of age. For licences not in English, an International Driving Permit is required or, if travelling from China, a China Notarial Certificate (CNC).

Driving in Australia

Visitors to the Australia are only allowed to drive hire vehicles with the appropriate insurance and a full license. More information on driving in the Australia is available here.

Nearby attractions

Sydney International Airport is located just 8km from Sydney central business district, commonly referred to as the CBD. In Sydney’s central business district, you’ll find the Sydney Motor World Museum, a treasure-trove of vintage cars, motorbikes and other vehicles and a great day out for families who love anything with a big engine that runs on wheels.

Sydney is also home to some of the world’s most iconic landmarks, notably Sydney Opera House, which is a roughly 20-minute drive from the airport and regularly hosts events from world-class opera to cabaret, as well as being a ‘must-see’ attraction in its own right.
