Hertz in Vienna International airport (VIE)

Vienna International airport is located less than half an hour from the Austrian capital of Vienna and is a bustling international air transport hub with nearly 22.8million passengers in 2015. The airport is popular with those travelling to Vienna on business, as well as those on city breaks and holidays and travellers looking to explore Austria’s amazing scenery. Hiring a car allows you to do all of this at your leisure, as you are not restricted by public transport schedules.

Hertz Car Rental uses 90 years of experience to give you the freedom and flexibility to do this by letting you rent the best car for your needs. Whether it’s a city car or something for longer distances, we can make sure you have the right vehicle — and you can even book in advance.

About the airport

Passengers arrive at Vienna International airport from right across Europe and the Americas via a host of airlines including flag-carrier Austrian Airlines. The airport has a host of modern facilities in addition to those you’d expect, including free Wi-Fi in all areas.

The airport has multiple terminals, although they are all housed within the same building. This means that they are within walking distance of each other, making it an easy airport for passengers to navigate.

How to rent a car at Vienna International airport

Vienna International airport has a dedicated Car Rental Centre, which is where you can find the Hertz branch. The centre is on Level 0 of Multi-storey Car Park 4 (P4) and is accessed through a short, covered passage. The branch is open between 7am and 11.30pm Monday to Friday, 8am and 8pm on Saturdays and 8am to 11pm on Sundays. Out-of-hours services are available.

In Austria, you must be at least 25 years of age to rent a car, although this can be reduced to 21 or 19 (depending on the type of car) upon payment of a supplementary young driver’s charge. You will be required to present your full and valid driver’s licence and, if you are not a citizen of the European Union, an appropriate International Driving Permit (IDP). A passport or national identity card is necessary for all domestic and EU renters, while a passport is mandatory for non-EU renters. You will also need to provide your credit or debit card and, if applicable, your reservation details.

Additional information

• Gold customers should proceed to the Gold Counter on arrival at the Car Rental Centre to collect their keys, which will be waiting for them.

Driving in Austria

Visitors to Austria are only allowed to drive hire vehicles with the appropriate insurance and a full license. More information on driving in Austria.

Nearby attractions

Less than two hours from the airport is the Red Bull Ring, home to the recently revived Austrian Grand Prix. Other race days are held there throughout the year, making it a must-see for car fans. Vienna itself is filled with attractions for all the family including Tiergarten Schönbrunn, a zoo founded in the 18th century in the grounds of the Schönbrunn Palace, and Prater, a large public park featuring a classic amusement park called The Wurstelprater.
