Hertz in Cannes

Discover one of the most glamorous destinations in the world in style with Hertz Car Rental in Cannes. With a branch in the heart of town at Rue d’Antibes, you can rent a car as soon as you arrive and see the Cannes and the surrounding areas at your leisure, whether that’s driving around town, heading up to coast to Nice or driving to the great outdoors at the Verdon Natural Park.

One of the most exclusive towns in the south of France, Cannes is perhaps best known for the Cannes Film Festival, when the most famous faces from Hollywood and world cinema alight the steps of the Palais de Festivals on La Croisette. Boasting a tremendous nightlife, Cannes is the ideal destination for anyone looking for a luxury place to unwind, and has some wonderful opportunities for driving.

Driving and Parking in Cannes

You will need a full driving licence and must be over 21 to rent a car in Cannes. If you are from outside the European Union you will also need an International Driving Permit (IDP). For more information about driving regulations in Cannes, take a look at our page about renting a car in France.

The majority of Cannes operates a one-way system in order to control traffic in what is a relatively small town. It is well sign posted but there are a lot of one-way streets, so do check before turning into streets so you don’t accidentally find yourself travelling the wrong way. If you hire a car in Cannes during the film festival, it’s worth remembering that La Croisette is closed off to traffic and so you may need to find alternative routes.

Parking in Cannes is fairly plentiful considering the comparatively small size of the town. You can find a mixture of car parks and on-street spaces. The rates for on-street parking spaces vary depending on the zone you are in, so do check the pricing details at the parking kiosk. Some zones offer a free parking period for the first 20 minutes or hour.

Key Routes

One of the key routes in Cannes is also the most iconic and (as long as you’re not in town during the film festival when it’s closed) driving along it is a must for your itinerary. Boulevard de la Croisette takes you along the seafront and past some of the town’s most beautiful hotels and the Palais de Festivals. You also get views of the town’s stunning beaches, and you continue along this road as is connects with other highways offering a gorgeous coastal drive to Nice.

Going through town, the Avenue Francis Tonner and Avenue du Raymond Picaud give a direct link to the airport, while Rue d’Antibes takes in many of Cannes’s luxury shops, bars and restaurants.

Major Highways

Cannes is connected to the rest of France by the Autoroute system, most notably the A8 - also known as La Provençale. The French Autoroutes are toll roads, and you can pay by cash or card for the section of road you have used. There are also some rules you will need to remember:

• Drive on the right and pass on the left. Slower vehicles should move over to the right lane to make way for faster vehicles. The left-hand lane is for overtaking only and should not otherwise be driven in.
• You should carry a warning triangle and high-visibility jacket in your car. If you break down, you should get your car to the hard shoulder, put on the jacket and set up the warning triangle to make other drivers aware.
• Autoroute service stations often serve wine, but you should bear in mind that the legal drink-driving limit is quite low at 0.5 mg so take care.
