Hertz in Dubai Marina

Situated right in the heart of one of the most innovative, vibrant and dynamic cities in the world, the floating, man-made island of Dubai Marina is a unique location. This is where the rich and famous come to show off their wealth, and where Dubai’s elite come to do business. A fast-paced business Centre as well as a residential area and an attraction in its own right, Dubai Marina draws visitors from all over the world.

With over 90 years’ experience in providing the very best in hire vehicles, Hertz Car Rental offers an exclusive service to visitors to Dubai Marina that includes everything from luxury limousines to 4×4 off-road vehicles. Whether you want to cruise the bright city streets in an open-top sports car or go dune driving in the desert, Hertz Car Rental has the right car for you.

Driving and Parking in Dubai Marina

You will need a full driving license and must be over 21 to rent a car in Dubai Marina. For more information about driving regulations in Dubai Marina, take a look at our page about renting a car in the UAE. Cars are left-hand drive, and traffic drives on the right-hand side of the road.

Is parking available around Dubai Marina?

Malls such as Dubai Marina Walk and the underground parking lots at the various complexes along the Marina provide visitors with spacious parking. Parking is generally free for the first couple of hours, but after that you will need to get both validation from the restaurant or complex you’re visiting and spend at least Dh50 (authenticated by a valid receipt from one of the outlets).

If you fail to present a receipt with the correct stamp when exiting the car park then you will have to pay the regular parking fee of Dh20 for the first hour. If you lose your receipt the cost rockets up to Dh150, or up to Dh250 in Emaar buildings.

One of the biggest new parking lots is the 1,200-space Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR) underground lot. It can be accessed from Al Gharbi Street, across Dubai Marina to Sheikh Zayed Road.

Dubai’s roads are very high quality (potholes are a rarity), but they can become very congested, particularly in downtown areas and around the Marina. However, driving standards in Dubai are truly dreadful, and the country has an incredibly high accident rate. Dubai city is very busy, and the city’s tramways also make driving challenging. It may be best to park in one of the underground car parks and explore the city on foot or by public transport.

Local attractions

Dubai Marina is an attraction in its own right, and the sight of so many super-yachts moored in the marina draws tourists from all over the globe. However, this glittering part of the city is also home to one of the most dramatic skylines in the world, with a dazzling array of towers forming a genuinely breathtaking backdrop to this modern city. The tallest is Pentominium, which at 516m on completion will be the tallest residential building in the world. Panoramic views from the tops of buildings such as Infinity Tower and Marina Pinnacle are dramatic, if a little vertigo inducing.

However, Dubai also has an historic side to it, and the best place to experience Old Dubai is the Al Fahidi Historic District. Although still relatively young (the area was built in the 1900s), it follows traditional Middle Eastern building patterns and is packed full of museums, authentic souqs and markets, galleries and artisan’s workshops.

Driving in and around Dubai Marina

Key routes

There are two major series of roads in Dubai, designated as “E” and “D” routes. These are then divided further into inter-city routes and major highways that link across the Emirates. Many city roads are very busy commuter routes. The key cross-town route in Dubai is the Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road or E311. This route allows easy access not just to the Marina, but to other key development areas within the city such as Dubai Silicon Oasis International City, Sports City, Dubailand and Global Village.

Major Highways

Running through the heart of Dubai is the E11 or Sheikh Zayed Road. This is the longest road in the Emirates, and runs from Al-Silah in Abu Dhabi all the way to Ras al-Khaimah at the Oman border. It runs parallel to the coast and is a dramatic and interesting route through the Emirates and along the Persian Gulf.
