Hertz in Newark International Airport (EWR)

Newark International Airport serves primarily the state of New Jersey and the metropolitan area of New York. It was the USA’s first major airport and still one of its busiest, with over 40 million passengers passing through its three terminals in 2016. Connected to New York and the rest of New Jersey by an excellent road system, the airport makes a good spot to start exploring this and the neighbouring tri-state area by car from Hertz Car Rental.

For nearly a century Hertz Car Rental has been providing a wide range of quality rental vehicles for both business and leisure customers, enabling millions of travellers to enjoy the comfort and convenience of self-drive and explore all parts of the world at their own pace. Customers arriving at the Newark International Airport branch of Hertz Car Rental can choose from a range of vehicles, whether you’re here for business or pleasure.

About the airport

The airport was opened in 1928 and was the busiest in the world until New York’s LaGuardia opened in 1939. Closed during World War II to commercial flights, the present A and B terminals were opened in 1973, and in 1996 a monorail was added to connect all three terminals and cope with the increasing passenger numbers. It also connected the garages and parking lots, and later the same year Terminal B was given a new arrivals facility. A major hub for United Airlines, Newark International Airport recently completed a major project for the expansion of Terminal C.

Newark International Airport has three terminal buildings and three runways, and also one helipad. The Newark International Hertz branch can be found in Building 23, not far from the main Arrivals area.

How to rent a car at Newark International Airport

The Hertz Car Rental branch is open 24/7, and a dedicated kiosk is also available at this location. This branch also offers a Gold Canopy Service and a Prestige Service, as well as vehicle upgrades on request.

You must be at least 25 to rent a car through Hertz at Newark International Airport. This can however be lowered to 20 on payment of a daily Age Differential Charge, which is set at a particular rate for most vehicles but increases for a number of higher performance models. Also, for a small number of vehicles the minimum age is set strictly at 25. You’ll be required to have a valid passport, and be able to produce a full and valid driving licence when you hire a car here, and an ID from your country of origin if your passport is not in English. An International Driving Permit (IDP) will also be required if you are coming to Newark International Airport from outside the USA. If you arranged to pick up your vehicle in advance, you must have all the relevant documentation with you. Payments can be made using a debit or credit card.

Additional information:

• Hertz Ultimate Choice is available at this location, allowing customers to locate their vehicle more efficiently, and be quickly on their way.

• Vehicles are optionally fitted with the NeverLost navigational system, with computerised voice and a choice of LCD screen sizes.
