Hertz in Al Maktoum International Airport

Dubai Al Maktoum International Airport - often known as Dubai World Central - is on its way to become one of the largest and busiest airports in the world. Right now, it has capacity for up to seven million passengers and is fully operational as it continues with its massive expansion to become the gateway to Dubai and the UAE. Less than 52km from central Dubai, only a 40-minute drive separates business travellers and holiday makers from one of the most vibrant cities in the world.

Hertz Car Rental have been operating for nearly 100 years, with experience in providing exceptional customer service and premium quality vehicles. If you’re in Dubai for business or pleasure, renting a car at Dubai Al Maktoum International Airport is quick and easy. Driving gives you the flexibility to travel where you want, when you want, with no restrictions, so a rental car is the best option if you want to get around Dubai and explore further afield.

About the airport

27 passenger airlines currently serve Dubai Al Maktoum International Airport, with more than 100 flights per week travelling between 44 destinations worldwide, particularly within the UAE, Asia, and Europe. Passenger numbers at the airport are growing all the time, with 850,633 passengers welcomed into the terminal in 2016 - up 84.5% from 2015. This will continue to grow as the airport expands and develops into the massive travel hub it aims to become.

While still growing, the current terminal has all the facilities you would expect, including retail areas at Departures and Arrivals, enabling you to shop before you board your flight, or before you go to collect your rental car.

How to rent a car at Dubai Al Maktoum International Airport

The Hertz branch at Dubai Al Maktoum International Airport can be found in the Arrivals Hall and is open 24/7 for your convenience. For some Vehicle Groups A-D in Dubai, you need to be at least 21 years old, while for the rest you need to be a minimum of 25.

If you are a UAE resident, you will need to present your driver’s licence on collecting your car. If, however, you are from outside the UAE, you will need an International Driver’s Permit (IDP) along with your licence. Residents of certain countries, including the UK, Ireland and the USA do not require an IDP to drive in the UAE and will just need their valid driver’s licence, while some countries will need an official translation of their licence, so be sure to check in advance. All renters will be required to show their passport as proof of identity.

Additional information

• While child seats are not mandatory in UAE, it is strongly recommended that you use one for the safety of any youngsters. These are available to rent (with 24 hours’ notice) for a fee of AED30 per day, AED150 per week, or AED400 per month.

Driving in and around Dubai

Nearby attractions

Dubai is well known for its love of cars and so it’s a great destination for petrol heads. The Dubai Motor Festival, Emirates Classic Car Festival, and Dubai Motor Show take place at different times throughout the year, so you should check to see if your visit coincides with one of them. If you drive out to the Emirates National Auto Museum, you can peruse the private car collection of Sheikh Hamad Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan, or you can take the short drive to the Sharjah Classic Cars Museum to view many vintage vehicles.
