Hertz in Dubai Media City

Dubai Media City is one of the most vibrant business areas in Dubai, and renting a car here is invaluable as it not only gives you more flexibility to explore, but it also makes it easy to travel around. Hertz car rental in Dubai Media City operates within the Radisson SAS Hotel in the heart of the district, making it easy to find within the complex.

Dubai Media City is the UAE’s media hub, and is today the home of a variety of media organizations that attracts professionals and business travellers all year round. Because of the high number of visitors there are also plenty of hotels in the vicinity, as well as leisure facilities such as Dubai Media City Park for a chance to relax and unwind. The exceptional amenities of Dubai itself are right on the doorstep.

Rules and Regulations for Driving in Dubai Media City

Driving in Dubai Media City is exactly the same as driving around Dubai as a whole — and chances are you will need to drive out of Media City and into the heart of Dubai at least once.

To rent a car in Dubai Media City, you need to be at least 21 and, for some vehicle groups, this increases to 25. You will also need a full, valid driver’s licence from your country of residence and, in some cases you may need an International Driver’s Permit as well. You can check with your Hertz branch whether you will require this or not before you travel. You will also require your passport and your UAE Visit Visa when you collect your vehicle.

Dubai’s roads have a bit of a reputation for being busy and fast paced. Be sure to obey the local regulations for your own safety and remember that traffic police can issue on-the-spot fines if you are caught speeding or disobeying minor rules, and you can even be issued with a court summons.

For this reason, stay aware of local speed limits, which are always signposted and be sure to obey laws surrounding driving behavior, as swearing and obscene gestures can be punishable by fines, prison or deportation. It is also illegal to use a mobile phone without a hands-free kit while driving so even though you may see other drivers breaking the law, make sure you don’t fall into the trap yourself.

Special attractions

Dubai is known for its car culture, whether it’s beautiful vintage vehicles or fast and shiny supercars. There’s a wealth of car-related events and attractions for you to take in during your stay. The Dubai Motor Festival, the Dubai Motor Show and the Emirates Classic Car Festival are all major events in the Dubai calendar and your chance to see a variety of luxury and high tech cars.

It’s well worth checking if your visit coincides with any of them so you can make time to attend. If you’re visiting at another time, you could always check out the Emirates National Auto Museum, where the personal collection of Sheikh Hamad Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan can be viewed. This can be found on the road between Abu Dhabi and the Liwa desert. Closer to Dubai itself is the Sharjah Classic Car Museum, where you can view vintage cars, motorbikes, and bicycles.

If you want to take some time out from Dubai Media City, you can take the E11 route to explore the UAE’s coastline, heading up to Sharjah, or down to Abu Dhabi and a variety of small towns and villages looking out on to the Persian Gulf.

Quick information

•  Minimum car rental age: Depending on vehicle group, you must be either 21 or 25 to rent a car in Dubai Media City. There is no age differential charge to reduce this.

•  Correct side of the road: In Dubai Media City, as in the rest of the UAE, you drive on the right-hand side of the road and overtake on the left.

•  Speed limits: Speed limits vary across Dubai as they do across the UAE. Main roads range between 100km/h and 140km/h, while in built-up areas this reduces to 80km/h. This is usually reduced further in particularly busy areas.

•  Driving with children: No child under 12 can ride in the front passenger seat without an appropriate rear-facing car seat and the airbag disabled. Children in the rear passenger seats must use appropriate car seats and seat belts.

•  Toll roads: All Hertz vehicles are fitted with a Salik tag which will register each time you use a toll road. On returning your vehicle, you will be given a breakdown of this and be charged accordingly.
